What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Some are essential for a site to function; others exist to follow you around the internet. This page tells you which ones we use.
Cookies we set
| Name | Purpose | Lasts | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
tp_admin |
Keeps a session. For readers it is used only to avoid counting the same person twice in an article's view count. For signed-in administrators it maintains the login session. | Until you close your browser | Strictly necessary |
This cookie contains a random identifier and nothing else. It is marked HttpOnly,
Secure and SameSite=Lax, so it cannot be read by scripts, is only sent
over HTTPS, and is not sent on cross-site requests.
What we do not set
As of the date at the top of this page, this site does not use:
- Analytics cookies — no Google Analytics or comparable service.
- Advertising or retargeting cookies.
- Social media tracking pixels.
- Cross-site behavioural profiling of any kind.
That is why you are not being asked to dismiss a consent banner. If we ever add non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first and update this page before they are set.
Affiliate links and third-party cookies
Some links on this site are affiliate links. We do not set a cookie when you click one — but the retailer or affiliate network you land on almost certainly will. That cookie is how they attribute a purchase to us, and it is set by them, on their domain, under their policies.
We have no control over those cookies and cannot read them. If you want to know what a particular retailer stores, check the privacy and cookie policies on their own site. Our affiliate disclosure explains the commercial arrangement.
How to control cookies
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies from its settings, and offers a private browsing mode that discards them when you close the window.
Blocking the cookie above will not stop you reading anything on this site. The only effects are that repeat visits may be counted more than once in an article's view total, and administrators will not be able to stay signed in.
Changes
If our use of cookies changes, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. See also our privacy policy.
