The short version
Togo Paws is reader-supported. Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer pays us a small commission — at no additional cost to you. You never pay more for using our link.
We are never paid to feature, rank, rate or recommend a product, and a commission never changes a verdict.
How affiliate links work
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer's affiliate network records that you arrived from us — usually by setting a cookie on their own domain. If you then buy within a set window, we receive a percentage of the sale.
The price you pay is identical to the price you would pay going direct. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket. We cannot see who bought what — the reports we receive are aggregate figures, not personal data. See our cookie policy for what those third-party cookies do.
Where you will see them
- A disclosure banner appears near the top of the homepage.
- A disclosure notice appears above the content of every article, before any recommendation.
- This statement appears in the footer of every page.
Not every outbound link is an affiliate link. Links to studies, regulators, veterinary bodies and reference material earn us nothing — they are there because you should be able to check our claims.
What commission does not influence
Being funded by commissions creates an obvious conflict of interest. We will not pretend otherwise, so we state the limits explicitly:
- Which products we recommend. Rankings reflect our assessment, not commission rates.
- What we choose to cover. Topics come from reader questions and gaps in the available advice.
- What we are willing to say. If a popular, high-commission product is bad, we say it is bad.
- Whether we recommend buying at all. "You do not need this" is a conclusion we are willing to publish, and have no financial reason to avoid.
Our safeguards
- We do not sell placements, ratings, list positions, sponsored posts or "featured" slots. There is no price list, because nothing is for sale.
- Commission rates are not visible to writers as a factor in editorial decisions.
- Reviews are written after using the product, not from the retailer's description.
- A correction is made even when it costs us revenue. Our corrections policy applies regardless of commercial impact.
- If we cannot recommend anything in a category honestly, we publish that instead of picking a winner for the sake of a link.
Free samples and loaned products
Most of what we test is bought at normal retail price. Occasionally a manufacturer supplies or loans a product. When that happens:
- The article states clearly that the item was supplied.
- No condition is accepted regarding coverage, timing, or the verdict.
- We do not agree to pre-publication review by the manufacturer.
- Receiving a product is not a commitment to write about it at all.
Programmes we participate in
We participate in affiliate programmes operated by retailers and affiliate networks in the pet supplies category. Where a programme requires specific wording, that wording appears on the pages it applies to.
Regulatory position
This disclosure is made in line with the US Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising, and with comparable consumer protection rules elsewhere, which require material connections between a publisher and a seller to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously.
That is why our disclosure sits above the content rather than in a footer link: you should know about the relationship before you read the recommendation, not after.
